Why do we get spam mails of winning yahoo-msn lottery?
Everyday there are 40-50 stupid spam mails laying down there in the spam folder of any given mailbox. what do ppl get forwarding such fake winning mails? what could they possibly do by asking one’s personal information like Name, address, pin / zip code, phone number, age etc?
Genuine answers only or negative marks…..
They wouldn’t keep sending them if people weren’t stupid enough to fall for it and hand over all of their personal information for identity theft purposes. With that information, anyone can get a fake ID in your name and carry out all sorts of scams
And then they’ll send money for “taxes” or “transfer fees” or “legal fees” for their lottery winnings, and some are even stupid enough to send a copy of their passport and their bank account number – and all any scammer has to do is email the bank pretending to be the account holder stuck overseas, email the copy of the passport to “prove” their identity, and have all the money transferred out of the account
With your personal information, they sell it on to other spammers/junk mailers – both regular mail and email. They sell your phone number to direct marketers contacting you with fake lottery wins, calls pretending to be from your bank, etc, etc
You hear about identity theft – this is how the theives get the information, because there are people who are stupid enough to send their personal details to a complete stranger.
