Button Cell Battery Voltage doesn’t seem right?
i just pulled apart a little pocket led flash light with 5 white led’s run by 4 LR44, button cell batteries.
These are 1.5 V batteries so when fully charged they should supply 6 volts. I just got my multimeter and checked them. When i check the voltage with all 4in series it reads 3.2ish Volts. So okay they are pretty flat right…
Then when i check the voltage of 3 of the cells in series it reads as just over 4 volts.
Why when i remove a cell does the voltage go up?
Sounds like a short circuit.
Check each battery to see if each has 1.5V. If they do you know each cell is probably fine. If they don’t you know you either have a dead cell or a weak cell.
Since your voltage drops when you put the 4 cells in series then 1 of 2 things are happening.
1. You have a cell backwards in your series which is cancelling the voltage of 2 of the batteries which would give you your 3.2ish voltage.
2. You have a short circuit in one of the batteries which is causing your voltage to drop.
Batteries are pretty simple so you’re probably going to find that you either have a bad cell or 2 batteries that are shorting each other out.
